Job Purpose

Provide leading position in establishing Canoo statement of battery cell technical needs, including cell characterization, cell packaging considerations, and other requirements for longer term cell selection criteria. Serve as primary technical interface liaison with battery cell suppliers. Direct battery characterization and battery module/pack R&D.


  • Develop long term roadmap for Canoo Battery cell technical, durability and financial needs
  • Maintain deep battery cell supplier relationships
  • Evaluate battery ell supplier technology roadmaps and formulate proof points
  • Create and maintain internal Canoo battery cell and related module/pack roadmap
  • Advise Canoo executive management on matters of battery strategy

Required Experience

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or ElectroChemistry
  • 10 or more years in Electric Vehicle battery development or application
  • Strong current network of contacts within major battery cell suppliers
  • Executive presence to succinctly report status and recommendations for action
  • Experience creating and executing battery cell evaluation and qualification test plans
  • Experience in battery module and pack architecture
  • Experience in battery systems safety strategy and testing

Preferred Experience

  • Phd In Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or ElectroChemistry
  • Experience with test instrumentation systems including Vector Software Tools (ie CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe)
  • Experience with ISO26262, MISRA standards and due care criteria
  • Expert knowledge in vehicle communication protocols such as CAN and LIN and experience in creation of associated communication database files such as DBC and LDF
  • Matlab and Simulink Auto-code Generation
